This Child's Blessing
Words & Music By Gary Livingston
I remember as a little boy
sittin' on my mama's knee
We were waiting for Jesus,
waiting so patiently
All of us children had gathered,
some too young to understand
We hoped to catch a glimpse
of Jesus and maybe touch His hand
Then just around the corner
came a man dressed in white
He was followed by
twelve disciples and surrounded by heaven's light
Then His disciples approached
us and said, "You do not need to stay.
You have no need
to be here. Why don't you go on your way?"
But Jesus saw what was
happening and He took His disciples aside
He had some strong words to
say to them; words which cannot be denied
(He said...)
Suffer the little children, bring
them each and every one
For of such is the kingdom of
heaven; the place where I am from
Forbid not the little children, bring them unto me
For to enter my Father's
kingdom you must become like one of these
And so I went to Jesus, in
His arms He held me close
He prayed unto His Father words
which only heaven knows
[Instrumental]
From that day of this child's blessing
many years have passed away
But I will never forget the words of love
my Savior said that day
(He said...)
Suffer the little children, bring
them each and every one
For of such is the kingdom of
heaven; the place where I am from
Forbid not the little children, bring them unto me
For to enter my Father's
kingdom you must become like one of these...
you
must become like one of these
