A Carpenter's Son
Words By Donna Hawley
Music By Gary Livingston
Beneath
His earthly father’s bench a little child played
With iron spikes, hammer and wood, He’d make
carpentry His trade
His toys became the tools so familiar to Him, as He
grew from a child to a man
Did He know of the part they would one day play in
His Heavenly Father’s plan?
Within His Heavenly Father’s time His ministry
commenced in love
Baptized by John in Jordan's stream, from the
heavens descended a dove
A friend to the sinner, a way to the lost, He was
followed from place to place
Did He know that this crowd who was singing His
praise
would soon turn their backs to His face?
[Bridge]
Born a Carpenter's Son – He apprenticed when he was very young
Yet He knew right from the
start
That these toys were the
tools which would play apart...
He's a Carpenter's Son
[Interlude]
Beneath His Heavenly Father’s throne our broken
Savior was laid down
His tools that were toys were used to slay Him, a
ring of thorns, a cruel crown
You and I know the truth of this carpenter’s son
who played with spikes and with wood
Will you testify that His great sacrifice, our God
has used for each man’s good?
[Bridge]
Born a Carpenter's Son – He
apprenticed when he was very young
And He grew to understand
That these toys were the
tools which would pierce His hands
Born a Carpenter's Son
– He apprenticed when he was very young
Let us rise and tell the world about this Carpenter's Son
He's a Carpenter's Son... He's a Carpenter's Son...
Let's tell everyone about this Carpenter's Son
